The Welcome Table (September 15 - October 27)

Location: Room 205
Target: Adults of all ages
Teacher(s): Paul Banas
Contact: Darlene Thompson (darlenet@bca-online.com)

One of the real mysteries of the gospel exists in how Christians approach relationships of difference. While it is easy to embrace the biblical call to “love one another”, it is more difficult to summon the honesty and courage required to understand life and faith from different perspectives. In our approach to relationships as friend to friend, parent to child, or co-worker to co-worker there is not a much more basic need than expressing love and respect for people who look, think, act, and see differently than we do. This class will facilitate a conversation about adapting to the barrage of cultures around us while still remaining true to ourselves…and our faith.

SEVEN SESSIONS:

~ Getting Along in the Flat World

~ God Speaks “Jesus”

~ What is Culture Anyway?

~ Families, Churches and Job Sites

~ Why we do what we do: Cultural Values, Awareness and Empathy

~ Labeling our World

~ When the Going Gets Tough: Perseverance
