Daily Quiet Time Guide
May God bless you as you grow in Jesus Christ this year! A daily quiet time isn’t just important, but essential! Here are a few principles I have found helpful in developing a thriving relationship with God.
Determine the necessity of a Daily Quiet Time.
Why is it important? Because…
- Apart from Him we can do nothing. (John 15:5)
- It provides strength and stability for our lives. (Isaiah 40:28-31)
- Of the example of the Old Testament men. (Psalm 5:3; Exodus 33:11)
- Of the example of Jesus’ life. (Mark 1:35; Matthew 14:23; Luke 4:12)
- Of the example of godly men and women down through history.
- God desires our fellowship.
Determine a specific time for your Quiet Time.
Begin each day early alone with God. (Mark 1:35)
Determine a specific place for your Quiet Time.
Jesus withdrew to a lonely place. This is necessary. Don’t allow interruptions!
Determine to spend the first few minutes practicing God’s presence.
Maybe only one or two minutes; just affirm He’s there. (Psalm 46:10)
Determine to read the Bible first, then pray.
George Muller did this because he said that he always found something new to praise God for that way. Don’t read to teach; read to be challenged and inspired in your own life. Make notes. Pray before you read for the spirit of wisdom and revelation -- "Lord, speak to me through these words."
Determine to have a balanced daily prayer life.
Be still for a few moments and pray these four kinds of prayer (Ephesians 6:18):
Adoration: Reflect on God. Praise Him for His love and power.
Confession: Admit your sins to God. Be honest and humble.
Thanksgiving: Tell God how grateful you are for EVERYTHING.
Supplication: Make specific requests for others and yourself.
Determine to memorize Scripture on a daily basis.
This may come out of the passage you are reading.
Determine to keep your appointment with God every day.
Commit to spending at least 15 minutes with God each day.
My prayer is that this will be a year of incredible growth in your walk with the Lord!
