Compassion
Ministries Network

WHAT
IS COMPASSION MINISTRIES?
Compassion
Ministries is a network of ministries that fulfills the directive of
Matthew 25:34-40. It grasps the words of Jesus Himself when He said,
“I tell you the truth, whatever you did for the least of these
brothers of mine, you did for me.” Compassion Ministries exists for the
purpose of helping those who find themselves in need.

WHAT
DOES COMPASSION EVERETT DO?
In
Everett, there are hundreds of families that need our assistance. One way BCA
helps is through our Food Bank; a well-maintained pantry of non-perishable
items. When funds allow, food vouchers are made available to purchase items of
a perishable nature. Applications for assistance from the Food Bank are
available through the church office.
Compassion
Ministries also uses holidays or other particular times of the year to draw
special attention to needs. These include:
-
We
Gotcha Covered
We Gotcha Covered brings in men’s coats, blankets, and rain ponchos
to provide warmth and shelter against winter and spring elements. We also
accept a limited number women’s coats.
-
Easter
Baskets
Modeled after our successful Thanksgiving and Christmas Basket outreach,
our plan is to use Easter Baskets to provide a substantial meal (feeds 5),
along with Easter candy for children, and the message of the Gospel.
Advertising and collection of supplies will begin in early March.
-
Sole
Compassion
Sole Compassion provides help for children from families that cannot
afford to purchase shoes for school. Each year, our goal is to provide $15
Payless Shoes gift cards for 50 kids. This outreach runs concurrently with
the Back to School Drive, which provides much-needed supplies to children.
We collect pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, crayons, markers, glue,
rulers, scissors, and other item needed to assure success. This is our way
of telling the children in our community know that we believe in the
person that God has created them to be.
-
Benevolence
Fund
The Benevolence Fund exists to meet financial needs of those in our church
and community that fall ‘outside the lines’ of current ministry
boundaries. Occasionally, we receive requests for rent, utilities, or
public transportation. The requests are reviewed and approved as funds are
available.

Everett Outreach Dinners
We are pleased to announce that our Compassion Dinner Outreach has
relocated to the Everett Gospel Mission (EGM). We will be able
to minister to approximately twice the usual number of people as we
use the EGM's facility each Sunday. Our pastors are taking turns
to lead a full service from 11:30AM until noon with preaching,
praying, singing, and a meal. Our Compassion Dinner Sermon
Series, James: Developing a Faith that Works, begins with
a message from Pastor Rob entitled, "How to Hit the High Marks of
Maturity". We are excited to serve more people, and we need
your help! Please email Craig
Thompson, if you would like to join our team of servers and
ministers once a month or more.
-
Thanksgiving
Baskets
Held in early November, this drive invites people from our
congregation to donate food to supply dinner for a family of five. The
baskets are scheduled for distribution the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
-
Christmas
Baskets
Similar to our Easter and Thanksgiving Basket outreach, we provide
Christmas Baskets to many in our community who otherwise would not
have a special meal at this holiday. With the basket, we enclose a
letter sharing why we celebrate this day and the significance of a
relationship with Christ. Our goal is that no one would be without a
reason to celebrate this important day.
-
Giving
Tree
Along with the Christmas Basket drive, the Giving Tree brings joy to
kids that might not receive presents for Christmas. There will be a
tree in our foyer with tags showing the age and gender of a child.
Once you have selected the tag, please purchase the appropriate gift,
and return the unwrapped present to a designated place in the foyer.
This outreach continues to be a huge blessing to many families.

SUPPORT
MINISTRIES
A
growing staff of counselors led by Pastor Chuck Kinman, offer professional
Christ-honoring counsel. Several small groups are provided for those
struggling with various challenges in their lives. Several of them are:
Victorious
Living
Victorious Living is a group for men designed to gain better understanding
of the destructive nature of addiction, self-centeredness, and compulsive
behavior; men who are affected by drugs, alcohol, or other self-centered
behaviors. Victorious Living utilizes scriptural principles and applies
life application lessons to overcome guilt, frustration, hopelessness,
fear, and shame associated with these behaviors.

Serving Others through Caring Kindness.
Singles Ministry (25+)
Shut
- Ins
Pastor Nels Lien & his wife Vi, lead this Congregational Care
ministry. The Liens - along with others at BCA - minister to those who
cannot attend Bethany due to physical limitations. Through telephone
calls, personal visits, retirement home services and more, shut-ins are
connected with BCA’s current events and provided personal contact with
those from their home church.
Nearly
every area of Compassion Everett is sustained by volunteer hours. If you
are interested in learning more, please contact Craig
Thompson. Thank you!
