"GREATNESS: Seeing What God Sees"

Pastor Jeff Duchemin
August 31-September 1, 2002
1 Peter 2:9-10

God's Word is the corrective lens for viewing ourselves. It brings perfect clarity.

1 Peter 2:9-10--But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

IN GOD'S EYES WE ARE...

1. A chosen people

"...but you are a chosen people..."

John 15:16--You did not choose me, but I chose you...

Isaiah 43:1--Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

2. A royal priesthood

"...a royal priesthood..."

Romans 12:1--Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship.

3. A holy nation

"...a holy nation..."

Matthew 5:16--In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

4. A people belonging to God

"...a people belonging to God..."

Titus 2:14--...a people that are his very own...

John 3:30--He must become greater; I must become less.

Small Group Discussion Questions:

  1. What are some other "lenses" we tend to view ourselves in?
  2. Review the points and Bible verses from this lesson. What personal application can you make from this week's teaching?
  3. Re-read 1 Peter 2:9-10 and discuss which part you need to focus on.
  4. Take some time right now to pray for the needs of those in your small group.
