Matt. 20:28--Jesus did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life... 

John 20:21--...As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." 

Mark 10:43-45--...whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. 

Becoming a Servant: 3 Pathways 

1. Act, relate, behave - like Jesus! 
Philippians 2:1-5 

Integrating our faith into everyday life! - Character & Relationships 

 

2. Give, invest, surrender - like Jesus! 
Philippians 2:6-7 

Integrating our faith into everyday life! - Worship 

 

3. Commit, obey, devote - like Jesus! 
Philippians 2:8 

Integrating our faith into everyday life! - Follow 

Galatians 6:17--Finally, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. 

 

The Reward for Faithfulness: 

Philippians 2:9-11--Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 

This Life: 

 

The Life to come: 

Matthew 25:21--Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!” 

Small Group Discussion Questions: 

  1. Jesus embodied the nature of a servant. 
    In what ways did he show his servant heart? 
  2. Review the points and Bible verses from this lesson. 
    What personal application can you make from this week's teaching? 
  3. What is your servant “growth edge”? 
    Where is the Lord challenging you to follow Him into servanthood? 
  4. Take some time right now to pray for the needs of those in your small group.
