Pastor Jeff Duchemin:
"Becoming
the Type of Person God Uses"
Sunday, August 3, 2003
It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ, ...he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone. -Ephesians 1:11 [MSG]
5 Essential Parts to Running at Your Peak for God:
1. The Engine: the driving force of the car
Matthew 6:19-21--Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
The driving force in our lives must be obedience to God.
2 John 6--And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
Titus 3:1--Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good...
God uses those who make His priorities, their priorities.
2. The Windshield: so you can see where you're going
God’s perspective: Life is a temporary assignment.
Psalm 39:4 [LB]--Lord, help me to realize how brief my time on earth will be. Help me to know that I am here for but a moment more.
1 Peter 1:17 [GWT]--If you call God your Father, live your life as temporary residents on earth.
God uses those who view life through His eyes.
3. Inwardly clean
Mark 7:14-15--Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. Nothing outside a man can make him ‘unclean’ by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him ‘unclean.’”
God uses those who live by His standards.
4. Tires: the means by which the car is used
1 Peter 4:10--Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.
God uses those who use the gifts He has given them.
5. Fuel: what keeps the car running
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18--Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
Fuel is:
God uses those who spend time with Him.
