"Becoming Like Christ Through the Storms of Life"

2 Corinthians 3:18 [NLT]--And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 

Ephesians 4:24 [GWT]--...and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. 

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 
(2 Corinthians 4:17) 

Luke 8:22-25--One day Jesus said to his disciples, "Let's go over to the other side of the lake." So they got into a boat and set out. As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we're going to drown!" 
He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. "Where is your faith?" he asked his disciples. 
In fear and amazement they asked one another, "Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him." 

What is the key? Focus on God. 

Think About: Who He is and what He can do. 

Philippians 4:8--Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.

Joshua 1:5b--I will never leave you nor forsake you. 

Psalm 139:7-10--Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. 

 

2. The ____________ of God - nothing is beyond Him 

Matthew 19:26--Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." 

Ephesians 1:19 [Ph]--How tremendous is the power available to us who believe in God.

God is interested in how we respond to our storms. 

 

 

Small Group Discussion Questions: 

  1. What personal things can you do to see your storms as opportunities to become more like Christ? 
  2. Review the points and Bible verses from this lesson. What personal application can you make from this week's teaching? 
  3. What can we do to prepare ourselves to respond in a God-honoring way during our storms? 
  4. Take some time right now to pray for the needs of those in your small group.
