"Viewing Easter from 3 Angles: Crowd, Cross, Christ"
series: PASSION--Experience Christ's Love
Sunday, April 4, 2004
1. The Crowd
Mark 15:16--The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called together the whole company of soldiers.
Luke 19:35-40--They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:
"Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!"
"Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"
Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, "Teacher, rebuke your disciples!"
"I tell you," he replied, "if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out."
Zechariah 9:9--Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
2. The Cross
Luke 19:41--As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it.
John 1:29--The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"
Isaiah 53:6--We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
3. The Christ
2 Corinthians 5:21--God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
