CONNECTION: You Can Talk to God!
Pastor Rob Carlson: "Trust God for Every Need"
January 19, 2003 - Matthew 6:9-13
In the Lord's Prayer, God says:
I can meet every need you will ever face.
I want to meet every need you will ever face.
I will meet every need you will ever face.
If you'll trust me.
GOD'S ANSWER TO:
1. My inferiority: His person
Matthew 6:9--Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name...
2. My confusion: His plan (purpose)
Matthew 6:10--your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
3. My worry: His provision
Matthew 6:11--Give us today our daily bread.
4. My guilt: His pardon
Matthew 6:12--Forgive us our debts...
5. My strained relationships: His peace
Matthew 6:12--...as we also have forgiven our debtors.
6. My temptation: His protection
Matthew 6:13--And lead us not into temptation...
1 Corinthians 10:13--No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
7. My fear: His power
Matthew 6:13--...but deliver us from the evil one.
KEY POINTS:
It teaches me that I should always put God first in my life as the source.
It teaches me that I need to be specific in my prayers.
PRAYING THE LORD'S MODEL PRAYER:
I can't say "Our Father" unless I've been born again into God's family.
I can't say "Hallowed be Thy Name" unless I am committed to doing His will all the time.
I can't say "Your will be done on earth" unless I am committed to doing His will all the time.
I can't say "Give us today our daily bread" without a willingness to share it with those in need around the world.
I can't say "Forgive us our debts" if I am holding onto an unforgiving attitude toward others.
I can't say "Lead us not into temptation" if I continue to expose myself to compromising situations.
I can't say "Deliver us from evil" unless I really desire to walk with integrity and purity.
Small Group Discussion Questions:
