CONNECTION: You Can Talk to God!
Pastor Rob Carlson: "Trust God for Every Need"
January 19, 2003 - Matthew 6:9-13

In the Lord's Prayer, God says:

  1. I can meet every need you will ever face.

  2. I want to meet every need you will ever face.

  3. I will meet every need you will ever face.

    If you'll trust me.

GOD'S ANSWER TO:

1. My inferiority: His person

Matthew 6:9--Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name...

2. My confusion: His plan (purpose)

Matthew 6:10--your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

3. My worry: His provision

Matthew 6:11--Give us today our daily bread.

4. My guilt: His pardon

Matthew 6:12--Forgive us our debts...

5. My strained relationships: His peace

Matthew 6:12--...as we also have forgiven our debtors.

6. My temptation: His protection

Matthew 6:13--And lead us not into temptation...

1 Corinthians 10:13--No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

7. My fear: His power

Matthew 6:13--...but deliver us from the evil one.

KEY POINTS:

  1. It teaches me that I should always put God first in my life as the source.

  2. It teaches me that I need to be specific in my prayers.

PRAYING THE LORD'S MODEL PRAYER:

  1. I can't say "Our Father" unless I've been born again into God's family.

  2. I can't say "Hallowed be Thy Name" unless I am committed to doing His will all the time.

  3. I can't say "Your will be done on earth" unless I am committed to doing His will all the time.

  4. I can't say "Give us today our daily bread" without a willingness to share it with those in need around the world.

  5. I can't say "Forgive us our debts" if I am holding onto an unforgiving attitude toward others.

  6. I can't say "Lead us not into temptation" if I continue to expose myself to compromising situations.

  7. I can't say "Deliver us from evil" unless I really desire to walk with integrity and purity.

Small Group Discussion Questions:

  1. Where do you turn when pressures mount?
  2. Review the points and Bible verses from this lesson. What personal application can you make from this week's teaching?
  3. What steps do you take to grow in trusting God?
  4. Take some time right now to pray for the needs of those in your small group.
